HIDDEN ORCHESTRA - 'DUST' [NIGHT WALK, 2010]

An intense and rewarding listening experience, the record encompasses the energy and production techniques of studio-produced beats, but replacing synths and drum machines with natural/acoustic sounds and instruments for an emotionally potent style.
Built on contrasts – experimental without losing accessibility, electronic and acoustic, complex and simple, dark and energetic whilst intricate and calm – there is a sense of journey and progression, and, in bandleader Joe Acheson’s words, “the brooding reflections of a solitary walk through the still, restless night”.
Anyway, love the sound of the drums marching in!

'YOU IN ME' [VOLOR FLEX]

If I had one wish, we would be best friends
Love would never end, it would just begin
Promise to love you, trust me I'll trust you.

VOLOR FLEX AND BULB - 'CITY PRESSURE'

The story of this video follows a man feeling the pressures of modern city life.
Feeling like an outcast, the protagonist dons a mask as he journeys through the typical debaucheries of the city night time. Presented from the protagonists point of view, the video highlights his contempt for a society that has become one of lights and glamour.
For the most part of this video the character’s purpose is unclear until the end where it is revealed he is about to make a statement...

ELECTRELANE - 'GONE UNDER SEA' [THE POWER OUT, 2004]

A la belle étoile
J'ai vu ton visage gris
T'avais un chagrin d'amour
Les mensonges, c'est désespéré

Où est la cavalière?
Tu n'es plus brave
Je t'ai perdue dans la foule
Tu as coulé sous les flots

Brighton, United Kingdom (1998 – 2007) Electrelane were a all-female band from Brighton, England.
They were formed in 1998 by Verity Susman (keyboards, farfisa organ, lead vocals, guitar, saxophone, clarinet) and Emma Gaze (drums).
Listening to them live, it seems like you are in front of a new college so-excited band, but the not-evident structures of tracks and the all-time really rough sound makes it lovely.
It reminds me, in particular, Stereolab or Sonic Youth...
Such nice things to hear, anyway!

MARINE GIRLS - '20,000 LEAGUES' [LAZY WAYS/BEACH PARTY, 1983]

Since they knew no drummers, the group decided to focus on a minimalist approach to music...
And I learnt that '20,000 leagues (under the sea)' was not only a title of a book.

RYAN HANCOCK - OTHER MOMENTS OF EVERYDAY BEAUTY [FOTOGRAF]

What drives you to take photographs?
"The world seems to me increasingly incomprehensible, and there are times when I feel there isn't anything that I know for certain. For me, making photographs (or painting, or whatever) is necessary to translate the unintelligible reality of being into a more coherent form. Or at least to illustrate my best guesses.
There is vastly more "nothing" in the universe than "something", and I try to create images that recognize the grace by which anything at all exists."

ERIK SUMO BAND - 'DISCO IN MY HEAD' [THE TROUBLE SOUP, 2010]

At the end
When i find you
There is disco in my head
And now i have an army

It is not because I love Budapest, but the following pop-revolution comes from Hungary.
Hungary; a country where international careers in music are few and far between. However, vibrant signs of life were sighted years ago: back then an all-round musician by the name of Erik Sumo, who in real life is called Ambrus Tövisházi, successfully introduced himself with his debut album My Rocky Mountain (2005).

Back then pop, dub, jazz and Hungarian folk-elements were crossed with extremely catchy melodies.
By now, the Erik Sumo Band is a seven-strong project and their album The Trouble Soup (2010) is a bubbling cauldron of great pop-anthems.
Explosive synthesizers, eastern passages, indie and progressive in three-minute operas, that could have been penned by the Pram, Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips or the B 52's.
It's crystal clear, the Hungarian pop saga has to be rewritten.

HALA STRANA RIZBULON MELODI DHE TRADITA SHQIPTARE

Muzika e Shqiperise e pare me syte e nje tekniku te tingullit.

  // in english
Albania's traditional music seen with the eyes of a sound enginner. Hala Strana (aka Steven R Smith) is an American who, like many others, falls in love with melodies and traditions of Albania.
He studies some sounds that in the past rarely crossed the threshold of the villages, for their recognition and popularity in a region (listen to 'Motra Dhe Vellai').
Besides music acidity (long suites with the iron-like sounds where characteristic instruments, as clarinet, often are lost or delay to be highlighted), he preserves a colorful point of view about eash track ('Pogonishte' from the album Fielding, 2008). Naturally, the album itself Heave The Gamble Roof (2007) comes as a modern post-rock gift ('Havazi I Dy Motrave') for simple curious people, but it is presented to us as a jewel, not only for those melancholic souls of beautiful/lost southeastern Balkans music.

THE TIGER LILLIES - 'CRACK OF DOOM' [BAD BLOOD AND BLASPHEMY, 1999]

And so your life's been a success
And you have pleasure in excess
Don't worry it will all end soon
The crack of doom is coming soon
And so your future's looking bright
And you've reached the giddy heights
Don't worry it will soon end
It is all shallow and pretend
