KILL EMIL - 'POR FAVOR' [AFROHUNI PERSERI ME RITMET E RRUGES...]

Lindur ne Brazil aty nga fundi i 1984, familja e Kill Emil trasferohet ne Athine, Greqi, dy vjet me vone. Nje hap i rendesishem fale diferencave kulturore mes keture dy popujve per nje te sapolindur, por si kompensim, nje bollek muzikor tejet i larmishem e priste ne adoleshence, kur filloi te kampjononte ritme elementare hip-hop e beat-e popullore...
Qendroi afer te atit, i cili luante bouzouki e keshtu mesoi te luaje kitare e arriti te regjistroje edhe materiale post-rock, me eksperimente ne tinguj soul, funk, afro etj (mendoni qe hapte koncertet e Imam Baildi ndersa sot ato te dj Bonobo-s)...

'Porfavor'!

MULATU ASTATKE DHE ETHIO-JAZZ ME NGJYRA TE BUTA

'The ideal way  to explore multiple forms of music is through jazz...'

Nje qe ia doli mbane vetem.
Qe ne fillim perzien prejardhjen e ritmet afro me latino-n duke i dhene ngjyra multitonalitetesh muzikes ne dy albumet e para.

Shpirti etiop del ne pah kur melodi (gati) fetare afrikane (pjesa lindore e kontinentit) luhen me dymbedhjete tonet e jazz-it afroamerikan (albumi Sketches From Ethiopia). Shkrirje e shume tingujve, ku natyrisht instrumente rurale nga folku (si flauti prej kallamit te bambu-s) i japin ngjyre tjeter muzikes se maestros.
Jarmush njehere ka thene: "Ishte si te degjoje hip-hop-in per here te pare; dicka komplet e re, por njekohesisht te dukej familjar..."
Behet keshtu babai i ethio-jazz-it; ajo forme e strapelqyeshme e jazz-it qe duket kolone zanore e nje filmi modern/ekletik bardhe e zi sot (shto ketu faktin se sherben si frymezim edhe per Nicolas Jaar).

GABOR SZABO - THE ARTIST WHO NEVER GOT THE APPRECIATION HE FELT HE DESERVED

Not only Gabor was an amazing guitarist and prolific jazz musician, but first of all, he was an incredible innovator!
He started experimenting with eastern sounds (born in Budapest/Hungary in 1936) and innovating very early on. I got sucked into the Gabor world when I heard Spellbinder (1966). That was the first 'real, but late' Szabo ticket for me.

An LP rich with texture and feeling, stopping throughout the world to pick up varied influences (latino, jazz, funk). It began my 'branching out' into other areas, and I've gotta thank Gabor for that. Time to delve right into a nice Chai tea on a rainy day and peep a Fellini movie, or listening to a Buckley's 'Gypsy Woman'.
It seems like he was alwasy an open door to other worlds...
His eastern influences and Hungarian descent set his path and direction for virtually all of his magnificent career.

This tune 'Galatea's Guitar' (from LP Dreams, 1968) is a major mood setter.
Much of Gabor's music is this way. But, in particular this tune just seems to open up, right into an oasis of head nodding trippy jazz funk paradise. The intro is a bit long, the tune doesn't really start until about 1:44. But, like I said the mood is being set and the wait is well worth it. It is perhaps the closest to a 'dream' tune.

After he's arrested for smuggling diamonds planted on him, his stint in prison should have cautioned him, but resisting a persistent crime lord becomes more difficult when his marriage is on the line.
This 1970s Hindi-language musical drama features popular actor Feroz Khan.

BROOKLYN FUNK ESSENTIALS - A MEETING WITH MASTERS OF FUNK (IN THE BUZZ BAG, 1998)

Beyond fusion and dancing groove!
Generally upbeat, but the band's inherent musicality (acid-jazz, hip-hop, ska, funky), humor, and intelligence keep things afloat. The most interesting and warm tracks are the ones that carry the most Turkish influence, but generally this is less a World Summit than a Nu Kultural Flava..
